A Prayer of Renewal
Christians are in constant need of renewal. If we are in Christ, we are new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17), but we still depend upon the daily ministry of the Holy Spirit (Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:23; 2 Corinthians 4:16). Throughout our lives, the Spirit is renewing us in the image of our Lord Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:10).
And the Lord has given us different rhythms of renewal. We have daily rhythms of prayer, Bible reading, and fellowship. We have weekly rhythms of Sabbath rest and corporate worship. We have annual rhythms that the Lord uses to grow us in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. And occasionally in Scripture, there are significant moments when the Lord impresses upon His people their need for corporate renewal. We believe the Lord has led our church into a significant season, and we’re praying that He would do a great work in renewing us.
Look up “renew” in the dictionary, and you’ll find these definitions:
- to make new or as if new again; to restore
- to take up again; to resume
- to repeat so as to reaffirm
In one way or another, each definition applies to this moment in our life together. We want the Lord to make us new again in Christ. We long for Him to restore to us the joy of His salvation. We desire to take up again the wonder of His story in Scripture and in our years as a church family. We’re hungry to resume our life together after profound interruptions. And we long to repeat and reaffirm our commitment to live by His grace and for His glory.
We’re inviting all of our members to reflect upon the vows they once took as a member of PCPC. We want to be filled with gratitude for the gift of Christ extended to us, and we want to be filled with zeal to bring Him glory by extending His kingdom to others. Our denomination’s fourth membership vow poses the question: “Do you promise to support the church in its worship and work to the best of your ability?” As we reflect upon that promise and all that it means, we want the Lord to renew us!
In response to what the Lord is doing in this RE|ENTER season, we’re inviting you to write a prayer of renewal. We need time to process and pray about what we’ve heard so that we can respond to the Lord’s call to connect to Christ and to one another, to abide in Christ, and to extend Christ. We hope that every member will take advantage of this opportunity. If you feel led to share your prayer with others, there’s a form on this page to submit it. In your submission, you can include your first name, first and last name, or no name. We are confident that other people will be encouraged to hear how the Lord is working in you!
Here are some questions that may be helpful prompts as you write your own prayer of renewal.
- By God’s grace and for His glory, how is the Lord leading you to support the church in its worship and work to the best of your ability?
- What do you need to turn from and what do you need to turn to?
- How do you feel called to connect, abide, and extend?
- How do you long for the Lord to renew you and our church?
- Why do you long for the Lord to renew you?

Father in Heaven,
I praise you for your unfailing love for me, that even when I am faithless you are faithful. Thank you for keeping your vow to the point of sending your own Son as a sacrifice for my sins. Forgive me for the ways I have failed to keep my vows to you and to your Church. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation. And from this place of renewed joy enable me to connect with you and with your people, abide in your Son, and extend your Kingdom. Renew us as your Church, O God, for your glory and for our good.
Amen.

Lord, I thank you for the work you continue to do in my life. When I look back over the 30 years I've been at PCPC, I can't help but want to weep with joy with how much I have seen and felt your love through Your preached Word, small groups, marriage ministry, and individual relationships. I have truly seen this body be the hands and feet of Christ. God, would you cause me to never forget how faithful you have been and will continue to be. Thank you for never letting me out of your grip. Lord, I pray for a renewed still heart towards you. I want to renew a commitment to pray earnestly. I confess I often put "doing" things infront of prayer- would you change that in me? Renew my desire to abide only in You and help me to fix my eyes on you. Never let the Word of truth depart from me. Help me to love and serve others, starting with my family and church as only You can.
Amen

Lord Jesus,
Help me in my daily walk that turns into months and turns into years to Abide in you. You have said that apart from you I can do nothing. Oh God help me not only to Abide in you but that I would desire to Abide in you. It is your Word that teaches me and instructs me in my Abiding. May it continue to guide me and fill me. In Christ Great Name, Amen!

Father,
I need you. I need you to love you well. I need you to love others well. I thank you that you know we are dust. I thank you that I can come to you always, not just when I fall short or mess up. But I so thank you that I can come to you in those times also. Help me to be the godly woman you want me to be, glorifying you and honoring others. I pray in Jesus name. Amen

Lord, I pray for renewal every moment of every day for myself, my soon-to-be husband, my family, my church, my city, my state, my country, and the world. Each time I pray and talk with you, I cry. I feel so humbled by Your grace and continuous love. How perfect Your love is for me and for all of us. You loved us first!!!! We are all such sinners and disobedient children, yet You love us. Hold us close Lord. Mold us to be more obedient and be Your servants. Let us speak out to defend You, yet let us do it with LOVE. Thank you for Jesus and for forgiving us. I love you with all of my soul. Amen!

Dear Father,
When I am wrong, please correct me.
When I am lost, please lead me to follow You.
When I start giving up, please encourage me.
Please use me to point others to Jesus.
Please use me to help and encourage others.
In Jesus name,
Amen

Lord,
Grant me the grace to be still and find you in that stillness. As that stillness cancels out the noise, let me hear your still small voice that directs my thoughts, my words and my steps to walk in a manner worthy of you. Remind me that your presence is the satisfaction of my affections. Amen

Lord –
I say I want to be faithful to you, but I am too focused on myself to think much about you.
I say I want to support your church, but I am often too distracted by the things of this world.
I am often too lazy to keep my vows to you, to others, and to your church.
My mind is better trained to justify these false focuses, distractions, and loves, than it is to transform my life.
Send your Spirit to renew me so that I can be transformed into the image of your son.
It is in his name that I pray –
Amen

Precious Father,
My deepest heart’s desire is to serve You and follow You! Would you please help me to always fix my eyes on Jesus and walk by faith in the power of Your Holy Spirit in complete surrender to Your perfect will?! I pray you will daily give me wisdom, ordain my every step, and establish, bless and maximize the work of my hands! I pray that every thing I say and do would lift up high the precious name of Jesus, point others always to Him and always bring You the most glory! I am Yours and You are mine! Praise You Father!
In the high and precious name of Jesus I pray, AMEN
