Covenant Choir to release new CD

By Lynda Fray

Published January 23, 2010 in This Week

With great excitement, we are anticipating the arrival of the newest Covenant Choir CD, Christ Triumphant. This text-rich collection of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs was recorded with the desire that the biblical truths communicated through music that has been part of the life of our church family, from Sunday services to Vacation Bible School, would continue to enrich the life of our congregation and, perhaps as well, serve congregations in other places in God’s Kingdom. What a wonderfully diverse collection this is—arrangements by Colin and Robyn Howland, Stephen Nielson, and Brian Piper; singing by the Chancel Choir and Billy Park joining the voices of the Covenant Choir; the distinctive colors of string, wind, brass, and percussion instruments; and the magnificent sounds of our Schoenstein organ.

An excerpt from Colin Howland’s CD liner notes offers important insight into the motivation for producing this new recording:

The scriptures alone record the true nature of our relationship with God. Therefore, we sing of our love for God best when we sing His Word back to Him by faith. With this in mind, we may understand the importance of Paul’s exhortation to the Church that we should “let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:16).

This recording is full of a variety of songs based on the scriptures, whether they are direct quotations, paraphrases, or theological summaries of a biblical doctrine. Each of them is suitable for use in group singing or for solo, in church or at home. They are here in the hope that the One of whom we sing will be revealed to you, and that you would make His love for you the song of your heart.

Stay tuned to This Week for news about the arrival of Christ Triumphant in our PCPC Bookstore. As you wait, if either of the two previous hymn recordings of Covenant Choir are not yet part of your family life, this would be an ideal time to purchase a bookstore copy of Lift High the Cross or Come, Christians, Join to Sing.
